Arsene boss Arsene Wenger reportedly believes Newcastle star Hatem Ben Arfa is the man to get the Gunners’ season back on track.
Wenger has money to spend in January and was widely believed to be targeting a striker and a defensive midfielder.
But the Frenchman is keen to bring his compatriot Ben Arfa to the Emirates and is ready to test Newcastle’s resolve with a £15m bid for attacking midfielder Ben Arfa.
The 25-year-old has excelled since joining the Magpies permanently from Marseille last year, scoring 8 league goals in around 40 appearances, including some stunning long-range strikes.
The France international has said he is enjoying life at St James’ Park but, with the Toon floundering in 14th in the table, Ben Arfa is understood to be interested in the chance to move South.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has no interest in entertaining offers for the flamboyant forward, particularly with Demba Ba also a £7.5m target for Arsenal and Tottenham, but knows he must sell before he can buy.
