Allegri: AC Milan have nothing to lose in second half of season

December 26, 2012

Massimiliano Allegri believes AC Milan have "nothing to lose" as they look to put a turbulent 2012 behind them and improve during the second half of the Serie A season.

The Rossoneri's form has been inconsistent during the early part of the campaign after a summer of wholesale changes within the squad, but Allegri is confident his side can kick on with their season in 2013.

“I’m sure that we’ll have a good second half of the season,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “We’re behind in the standings so we have nothing to lose.

“It will be fundamental that we beat Siena when the championship re-starts and that we get to the half-way point of the league with 30 points on the board.

“We know that we can’t fix the league table in a month or a game and we are aware that we have some really important matches from now until February.”

Allegri's future was shrouded in doubt in the early part of the campaign as Milan struggled to cope with the losses of key players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, but the coach has praised the club for standing by him.

“I think the club did well because they could have changed coach in a moment of difficulty,” added the 45-year-old.

“When results are missing, it is the coach who pays the price.”
