Rooney becomes youngest player to score 150 Premier League goals

December 10, 2012

WAYNE ROONEY became the youngest player to hit 150 Premier League goals — as Manchester United moved SIX points clear at the top of the table.

Rooney fired a sensational double to help United beat deadly rivals Manchester City 3-2 in a dramatic derby at the Etihad.

The hitman said: “It feels fantastic. It’s a great day for us, to go six points clear and beat our closest rivals, especially with what happened last season.

“We’ve waited a long time for this to happen and I’m sure it means everything to everyone at the club and all the fans. We’re delighted that we can celebrate.”

Rooney reached his nifty 150 at the age of 27 years and 46 days.

That beat the record of Thierry Henry, who bagged No 150 for Arsenal when he was 28 years and 150 days.

The brace also gives Rooney 10 goals in Manchester shootouts — making him United’s greatest derby goalscorer.

It puts him alongside City’s Francis Lee and Joe Hayes as all-time top scorer from either side in these encounters.

Rooney’s double left United in the driving seat, only for champions City to level through Yaya Toure and Pablo Zabaleta.

But Robin van Persie won it in added time with a deflected free-kick.

City boss Roberto Mancini said: “They shot at goal three times and scored three goals. We’re not in a good moment but this season is long, we have time to recover.”
