Chelsea are looking to add another striker to their squad with Radamel Falcao and Gonzalo Higuain on the wishlist.
Roman Abramovich's assistant, Marina Granovskaia, has flown out to Madrid to discuss whether either player is available in January.
Atletico Madrid's Colombian striker Falcao is the primary target and would cost around £48million.
The Sunday Telegraph report that Argentina forward Higuain, playing at Atletico's rivals Real Madrid, is another option.
Real are interested in signing Falcao and if the Colombian moves to Jose Mourinho's side, Higuain may be Chelsea's best option.
The striker, who turns 25 tomorrow, has not always been first choice - Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo often start ahead of him.
He has spent several weeks recently on the sidelines thanks to a hamstring injury. Chelsea need another striker because they currently only have two at the club - Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge.
The Spaniard has recently awoken from his 12 hour Premier League stupor - ending his drought on Saturday against Sunderland with a brace.
Sturridge meanwhile has spent much of the season injured and has been strongly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Liverpool a possible destination.
