DANIEL AGGER can lead Liverpool to Europa League glory, according to club legend Alan Hansen.
Hansen, who won the European Cup three times with the Reds, believes fellow centre-back Agger has all the qualities to become one of the club’s greatest defenders.
Liverpool will find out who they face in the final 32 of the competition today when the draw is made in Nyon, Switzerland.
But Hansen is confident Denmark ace Agger, 28, along with his team-mate Martin Skrtel, will be able to cope with the best attackers left in the competition.
The Scot said: “When you look at some of the centre-backs Liverpool have had with the ball at their feet, Daniel’s up there with the best of them.
“He’s exceptionally comfortable in possession. If you look at the attributes you want in a top-class centre-back, he’s a nine out of 10 in the vast majority.
“Anticipation and interception is all part and parcel of centre-back play, but you always go back to the partnership he has with Skrtel and they complement each other.
“Skrtel’s really strong in the air whereas Daniel has better attributes on the ground.”
Meanwhile, Hansen’s former team-mate John Aldridge has called on the club to hand boss Brendan Rodgers a substantial kitty to spent in January.
Liverpool lie 12th in the table and Aldridge said: “Rodgers needs to be given the backing to bring the cavalry in to get us goals in the second half of the season.”
