Casillas is La Liga's least-tested keeper

December 20, 2012

Real Madrid's current league situation is surprising when you look at the figures, because in addition to being the team which shoots the most, 'Los Blancos' is also the team which has received the fewest shots on its own goal in the entire championship.

With 16 league games played, Casillas has only received 44 shots on target, making him the least-tested keeper by some margin. The Real Madrid captain is only called on to stop between two and three shots each game - something which should allow Mourinho's men to be much closer to the top than they are.

Barcelona and Atlético have much more to deal with in defence than Madrid. They receive more shots and have conceded more goals, but nevertheless have managed to make the most of their ability to score to hold the top two spots.

Mourinho is well aware of these figures and blames the team's poor position on a lack of concentration during set pieces and on certain individuals losing focus. The figures show that Real Madrid's defending is generally good, but also that lapses at certain stages of the game are the cause of its downfall.

Casillas, who is angling for the Zamora Trophy, has not had much luck. He is fishing one in every three shots out of the back of the net.
