Real Madrid was outplayed in many areas during Tuesday's game against Borussia Dortmund. However, statistics provided by UEFA talk of a different game, painting Madrid in a much better light.
For example, Mou's team fared much better in terms of possession, that crucial statistic in the eyes of the fans: 61% to 39%.
Borussia played its best football in the first half, praised by all, with significantly less possession that Mou's team: 38% for the Germans to 62% for the Spaniards. In the second half, when Madrid offered up its best football, the possession was more even: 59% to 41%.
This once again shows that direct and dramatic playing style is what sets Mourinho's team apart from the rest.
Madrid had more shots on goal: 11 in total to 5 by Klopp's team and also completed more passes: 531 to its rival's 284.
The one aspect in which Borussia surpassed Madrid was in the distance run: the German champion's players covered 120 kilometres, whilst the hosts only ran a total of 109 kilometres.
Another strange fact: Essien, a key player after he came on after the break, ran fewer kilometres than Modric, who was replaced by the Ghanaian and played little part in the game.
