Real Madrid: "Pepe's behaviour was exemplary"

Real Madrid issued an official statement giving its version of events during the Levante-Real Madrid match. The club assured that its players demonstrated an exemplary attitude both during and after the game. Furthermore, it denied that Pepe provoked the Levante players in the dressing rooms.

The text reads as follows:

Regarding the incidents which occurred at the end of yesterday's match between our team and Levante U. D., Real Madrid C. F. wishes to state the following:

1) The behaviour of all of our players and coaching staff was exemplary during a match which took place in highly adverse playing conditions, and ones which our team was able to overcome with professionalism, commitment and sportsmanship.

2) At the end of the match, the attitude and behaviour of the players, coaching staff and other members who travelled to the game was upstanding and irreproachable at all times.

3) We reject the statements claiming that our player Pepe attempted to provoke the home team's dressing room. The Real Madrid player demonstrated an exemplary attitude at all times, as did the rest of his teammates.

4) This club will always defend the values of sportsmanship and respect which should prevail in the world of sport.
