Higuain sidelined for 3 weeks with hamstring tear

November 09, 2012

José Mourinho faced another setback on Thursday, with the news that Gonzalo Higuaín will be out for three more weeks.

As if Madrid's injury problems in defence were not bad enough, now the injury crisis has afflicted their strikeforce, with Argentine website tn.com.ar reporting that Higuaín has torn his hamstring.

The Argentina international had to be substituted at half-time during Madrid's 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund last Tuesday after experiencing pain in his right thigh in the 24th minute. He was expected to return to action in time for the league game with Athletic on 17 November, but the medical tests have confirmed that his injury is worse than was first thought.

Higuaín will therefore miss Madrid's league games against Levante, Real Betis, Athletic Bilbao, plus the trip to Manchester City in the Champions League and the return leg of the Copa del Rey tie against Alcoyano.

Now the striker's aim is to be fit in time for the derby with Atlético Madrid on 1 Decmeber at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The injury has come at the worst time for player and club, as 'El Pipita' has been Mourinho's favoured striker in recent weeks, and scoring seven goals in 875 minutes on the pitch.
