Brazil Legend Rivaldo ends contract with Angolan club

November 09, 2012

Rivaldo has ended his contract with his latest club, Kabuscorp Palanca of Angola, which many media outlets see as the end of the 40-year-old player's career, during which he played for Deportivo and Barcelona, amongst other clubs. However, he recently stated that he may carry on for a little longer.

"He had a year-long contract which has come to an end,"the vice-president of the Angolan federation, Joao Lusevikueno, confirmed to 'AFP'.

However, the body has not confirmed that the conclusion of his contract means that Rivaldo will finally retire. Not even the Brazilian international or his club have confirmed the news as yet.

What has been made public is that Rivaldo injured his shoulder in October, forcing him to bid farewell to his season with Kabuscorp, where he started playing in January.

On Sunday, the player assured via Twitter that his current situation only affects his football career. He said, "Angola will always be my home" and he will continue to visit the country, where he founded the Rivaldo10 Institute.

Rivaldo, who won the Ballon d'Or in 1999 during his time at Barcelona, was the third highest scorer in the Angolan league, after scoring a superb tally of 18 goals in 21 games since arriving in the African country in January 2012.

The player became a globetrotter during the final stages of his career, playing in Greece, Uzbekistan and finally Angola, interspersed with periods when he returned home to Brazil.
