Sergio Ramos doubtful for France qualifier

October 15, 2012

Spain's centre-back problem has worsened. Sergio Ramos, Del Bosque's only remaining first-choice player in that position, missed today's training session in Las Rozas, Madrid; the first after the match against Belarus.

A muscular complaint prevented him joining the rest of the group, although it's expected he'll be able to train as normal tomorrow and be fully fit for Tuesday's match against France at the Vicente Calderón.

Today, he remained in the gym doing some individual exercises.

Del Bosque brought the Madrid defender off with 20 minutes to go in Minsk, bringing Albiol on in his place.

"I substituted him as a precaution. He'll be needed for France" explained the coach at the time.

Del Bosque had already lost Barça's Piqué and Puyol through injury. Busquets, nominally a midfielder, was Ramos' partner in the centre of defence on Friday.
