Ángel di María has declared he is ready to play at left-back against Borussia Dortmund should José Mourinho call on him to fill in for the injured Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao, but said his coach had not spoken to him about playing in that position.
"The truth is that I haven't spoken with Mourinho about playing at left-back but I always want to play, I love playing and I'll play wherever he asks me to play and I'll do everything I can to help the team," he told a pre-match press conference.
Di María has developed into one of Real Madrid's most important players since joining the club from Benfica in the summer 2010, above all for his assists.
"It's important to score goals but I prefer creating goals for others. I'm happy with how I've been playing and with how many assists I've provided. If I get a chance to score, I'll try and take it, but if not, I also love providing assists."
Madrid have not won on German soil for 11 years, but Di María was confident 'los blancos' could win in Dortmund.
"We know it's not going to be easy, but we just need to play our football, keeping doing what we've been doing until now and I hope we'll be able to get the victory. We go into the game in good form and playing well. We made a bad start to the season but now we're doing well. We are happy with how we've been playing and we aspire to win every game."
The Argentine declared he had no preference for the FIFA Ballon d'Or, saying "the award is decided by the captains and FIFA (sic), I have no say," and praised his team-mate Mesut Özil, who came through the ranks at Schalke, Dortmund's biggest rivals.
"He is a great footballer and thank God we have him in our team."
