Arsenal line up bid for R. Soldado

October 17, 2012

Arsenal are reportedly targeting Spanish international forward Roberto Soldado according to French source Les Transferts.

Arsene Wenger has been linked with a number of potential January additions to boost the North London club’s fire-power and the Gunners boss has now seemingly earmarked a move for the Valencia forward, a move that could well be an ideal one given the player’s prolific form and his side’s propensity to sell players on a regular basis.

The Mestalla side have been forced to offload a number of big name talents in order to balance the books with the likes of Juan Mata, David Villa and David Silva all being sold in recent seasons.

Former Real Madrid man Soldado has been a consistent marksman since his move to Valencia just over two years ago, netting 25 goals in his first term at the club and 27 times during the last campaign and the Spanish international may well be interested in a high profile move that could help him secure a regular spot in Vicente del Bosque’s starting eleven.

Wenger has just two effective recognised striking options at present, in the form of summer signings Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski. The French boss has seemingly ran out of patience with Marouane Chamakh and chose to send Nicklas Bendtner and Park Chu-Young out on season long loan deals, indicating that neither has much in the way of an Arsenal future.

The 27 year old is valued at €20m (£16m) by this source, a fee that Wenger may well be ready to pay given the fact that he has reportedly been handed a £35m transfer kitty.
