Lazio fined for fans' racist abuse at Tottenham players

October 19, 2012

UEFA have fined Lazio £32,500 after their fans racially abused Tottenham players during last month's Europa League clash.

Visiting supporters directed loud monkey chants at Jermain Defoe,Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend in the Group J encounter at White Hart Lane.

The fine has been issued by UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body, although the Serie A club have up to three days to challenge the findings of the panel.

Tottenham had three goals ruled out during the game, which ended goalless.

The confirmation of the fine comes amid the fallout from the England U21 clash in Serbia, in which Danny Rose was subjected to monkey chants from the home crowd.

Rose was sent off after the final whistle for kicking a ball into the crowd as an ugly fracas erupted on the pitch.
