David Ginola has tipped Gareth Bale to become one of the best players in the world – and claimed Spurs will struggle to keep the Welshman at White Hart Lane.
Bale has gained plenty of plaudits over the last few years and Spurs boss Harry Redknapp recently claimed the winger is in the same class as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Ginola believes it is too soon to compare the 23-year-old to the Barcelona and Real Madrid superstars.
But the former Tottenham ace believes it’s only a matter of time before Bale is regarded as one of the game’s greats.
“I don’t know if he is [at the same high level as Messi and Ronaldo]. He has to play more in the Champions League and competitions like that. But there’s no doubt the kid is brilliant,” Ginola told Drive Time.
“He is awesome. I’ve seen him play so many times and he can make the difference. He has got the pace, he has got the strength, he has got the vision. He has got everything to be at the top alongside players like Messi and Ronaldo.
“At the moment the club is trying to find a way to be play better football and Gareth Bale is probably the key. But he can’t play on his own, he has to rely on other players in the team.
“It will be complicated this season and it will complicated as well for the club to keep a player like Gareth Bale for some years.”
