West Ham United failed to lure American star Clint Dempsey from Fulham despite a transfer fee agreed between the two clubs.
Dempsey, who has only 11 months left in his contract, has been heavily linked with a move to a bigger clubs this summer with Liverpool and Serie A outfit AS Roma are both keen to sign the 29-year-old attacker but yet to meet Fulham's £9m asking price.
