Swansea vs Arsenal FA Cup Preview

January 05, 2013

PREVIEW

Arsenal begin their latest quest to end their trophy drought when they travel to face Swansea in the FA Cup.

The third round tie at the Liberty Stadium pits the Gunners against a team that beat them in both of their 2012 meetings.

That includes a 2-0 Michu-inspired Swans win last month and Arsene Wenger will be aiming to avoid a repeat as he looks for that first silverware since winning this competition in 2005.

Arsenal's form has improved since then with four wins and a draw in the Premier League over the past month but Swansea have already shown this season that they can compete in the cups.

Michael Laudrup's men are through to the semi-final of the Capital One Cup and have been beaten just twice in 13 home games this season so will expect to be in the draw for the next round.

And that could represent a further blow for Wenger as the pressure builds on the Arsenal boss to deliver success with his team currently down in sixth spot in the Premier League.

TEAM NEWS

SWANSEA

The Swans may have one eye on their Capital One Cup semi-final with Chelsea on Wednesday and that could be reflected in their team selection.

Michu (ankle) and Angel Rangel (calf) both shook off injury problems to play the full 90 minutes on New Year's Day but could be rested for this one.

Danny Graham is expected to feature in the squad despite the possibility of an exit during the January transfer window.

ARSENAL

Arsenal have no new injury problems ahead of the trip to Swansea and could select a strong side with a week until their next fixture.

Reserve goalkeeper Vito Mannone and midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong, who is back from his loan spell at Charlton, have both been struggling with a virus.

Abou Diaby (thigh) and Andre Santos (stomach muscle) are back in training but are unlikely to be involved at the Liberty Stadium.
