Premier League title race is still wide open, says Sir Alex

December 03, 2012

The Premier League title race is yet to become a two-horse race between the Manchester clubs, according to Sir Alex Ferguson.

United went clear at the summit after a 4-3 win over Reading, while Everton held City and Chelsea lost at West Ham, leading to renewed claims only the Manchester clubs were in contention.

However, Ferguson, who lambasted his side’s first-half defending at Reading that saw the hosts take the lead twice but ultimately succumb to a Robin van Persie goal, reckons the title is still wide open.

Asked about a two-horse race the United boss said: ‘At this time you can’t really say that. I think the important thing for us is to take lessons from the mistakes we are making and find a solution, because we are going to need it.’

United now sit three points above City ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby, with Chelsea ten adrift.

The Red Devils won for the seventh time in the league after going behind and midfielder Michael Carrick says the team always backs itself to recover.

‘We always feel we’ve got the firepower from different people,’ Carrick explained.
