Mancini: I did not force Adam Johnson out

December 26, 2012

ROBERTO MANCINI insists he did not force Adam Johnson out of the Etihad in the summer.

The Manchester City boss will go up against his former winger today when the champions visit Sunderland.

Johnson, 24, grew frustrated with his lack of first-team chances and made the £10million switch to the Stadium of Light.

But Mancini said: “I didn’t say to him to leave. Adam said he wanted to always play and for that reason I let him go.

“For me Adam was an important player but I understand the situation. He is young, he wants to play every game.”

Mancini has been warned that Samir Nasri is still suffering following the manager’s blast after the Manchester derby.

Nasri was slammed by the City boss for hiding behind a team-mate rather than blocking Robin van Persie’s free-kick winner.

Jean-Pierre Bernes, the French star’s agent, said: “He’s a bit isolated, internally, even though he is a solid man.

“I think that, effectively, he has feelings of inner suffering with regards to that incident because it was not fair.

“I think you have to be fair in life, you shouldn’t be excessive.”
