Joleon Lescott could make a shock return to Everton if he fails to win back his place in the Manchester City first-team.
The out-of-favour defender is reportedly considering a move away from the Ethiad in order to save his England career, and the man who left the Toffees for £24million back in 2009 could be set for a temporary return to Goodison Park.
Lescott has slipped to fourth-choice centre-back in Roberto Mancini’s pecking order behind Vincent Kompany, Matija Nastasic and Kolo Toure, and The Guardian claim he is now weighing up the possibility of leaving City on a six-month loan if he continues to be frozen out over the festive period.
Mancini will lose Toure to the African Cup of Nations in the new year, so Lescott should have a chance to prove himself in what will be a congested fixture list for the league champions.
However, if the 30-year-old continues to be overlooked, it’s understood Everton could offer him an escape route, which Lescott would have no problem accepting.
