John Mensah hopeful over Rennes return

December 15, 2012

Former Sunderland defender John Mensah could be on the verge of rejoining Rennes after training with the French club.

The Ghana international spent two seasons on loan at the Stadium of Light, but recently he has been dogged by knee problems.

Mensah spent two years with Rennes before signing for Lyon in 2008. Following a spell with Panathinaikos, Mensah trained with West Ham earlier this season but a deal to return to the Premier League failed to materialise.

Reports in Ghana have linked the 29-year-old with Everton and QPR, but the player says he has enjoyed his time with his former club.

"I am training with Rennes, they have been great to me," he said. "Rennes have made me welcome and allowed me to use their facilities.

"I love the club, there are great guys here but nothing has been said to me."
