Guerrero: I dreamed of scoring Corinthians' winning goal

December 16, 2012

Paolo Guerrero has said he dreamed of scoring Corinthians' Club World Cup winner, as the Copa Libertadores holders defeated Chelsea 1-0.

The Peru international headed home the only goal of the game in the 69th minute to send the Brazilian outfit's huge travelling support into raptures, and the attacker admitted his delight at the achievement.

He told reporters after the match: "[Before the match] I dreamed we won the game and I scored a goal. It's an incredible feeling.

"To win in front of so many Corinthians fans who came all this way... It's tremendous, unbelievable."

Timao stopper Cassio, who was awarded the Golden Ball prize as the best player of the tournament, praised his side's work-rate and admitted he was looking forward to returning home to celebrate in Brazil.

“Everyone struggled, ran for one another and so we [won] the title. We are definitely going to have a crowd waiting for us in Brazil. It's time to celebrate," Cassio told reporters.

The 25-year-old made several crucial saves against Chelsea, including a late block to deny Fernando Torres an equaliser, but he identified a stop in the Copa Libertadores quarter-final against Vasco da Gama as the most pivotal save en route to their global triumph.

“That was a defining moment, but I just did my job,” he added.
