Abidal keen to stay at Barcelona despite PSG interest

December 25, 2012

Eric Abidal's return to football is getting closer and closer. The Frenchman has already been declared fit by doctors, he's training with the rest of the squad and the club is already preparing a new contract as his is up on 30th June 2013.

The defender admits that he's received offers from France: "It's true that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was interested in me, but my family is happy in Barcelona and I want to stay here", he said in an interview given to the press at Olympique Lyon.

The Barcelona full-back is eager to play: "I had a tough time. Being ill changes you. But I've recovered gradually and now have the go ahead to return to playing competitive football".

Although there isn't yet a date for his return, the possibility of Abidal playing professionally again this season hasn't been ruled out. Neither the player nor the club are going to put up any obstacles to his return. In fact both are eager for him to play.
