Luis Aragonés: La Liga still a 2-horse race

November 21, 2012

Former Spain coach Luis Aragonés has declared that La Liga is still a competition purely between Real Madrid and Barcelona, despite the fact that Atlético Madrid are currently second in the table.

Aragonés visited his old club Sevilla on Wednesday to attend a ceremony in honour of his former team-mate Antonio Valero and spoke to journalists after the event.

Aragonés said he was surprised by the position in the league of Atleti, another one of his former clubs, but emphasised that the Spanish league was "still a two horse race", but confessed he would like it to be a three horse race.

Sevilla face Atleti on Sunday at the Vicente Calderón, and Aragonés said "considering their first half performance on Sunday [against Real Betis] they can beat anyone, they have a squad that is prepared for everything."

Aragonés also had kind words for Sevilla coach Míchel, for "giving José Antonio Reyes the confidence to show what he is made of" and advised Reyes to "do the talking on the pitch, like he did last Sunday".
