Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris reveals patient wait for No.1 position

December 21, 2012

Patient Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will not be revealing what he said to boss Andre Villas-Boas after being made to wait for his first-team place.

The France No.1 moved to White Hart Lane from Lyon in an £8million summer deadline day deal but he did not immediately replace Brad Friedel in the starting XI.

Lloris was instead made to wait until October before establishing himself as Villas-Boas' first-choice, as Tottenham's head coach allowed the 25-year-old time to adapt.

Understandably, Lloris was frustrated and held talks with Villas-Boas but he does not plan to move the contents of those discussions into the public domain.

"I had to be patient but I wanted to play and to claim the goalkeeper position as mine," Lloris said in The Times.

"But the manager makes his own decisions, even though it was not really what I expected.

"But it is part of an experience. The important thing was to come out the other side feeling stronger."

Lloris added: "I did speak to him but what was said between us remains between the two of us unless he wants to speak about it.

"I am a player and I know my place. The most important thing is that the situation has changed."
