For the fourth year in a row, Argentina's Lionel Messi was chosen as the "King of European football" in 2012 in an annual poll held in the Uruguayan newspaper El País.
Messi, Barcelona's star player, received 108 votes and was followed by Andrés Iniesta, who had 93. Cristiano Ronaldo was a long way behind in third place, with 9 votes.
Messi also won the poll in 2009, 2010, 2011 and equalled Zinedine Zidane's record after the Frenchman won in 1998, 2001, 2002 and 2003.
In terms of trainers, Spain coach Vicente del Bosque beat Real Madrid's José Mourinho by nine votes, with another Spanish coach, Josep Guardiola, in third place.
Around 250 journalists from daily and weekly papers, magazines and news agencies took part in the poll.
