Materazzi: Mourinho's priority is Champions League

December 06, 2012

One of the people who best knows José Mourinho and who also played under him at Inter Milan is Marco Materazzi. The former Italian international took to the airwaves at Radio MARCA to pay tribute to the Portuguese manager: "When he leaves Spain people will value what he's achieved, as they did in Italy".

The former Inter player highlighted Mou's ambition: "I speak to him every so often and I know that his priority is the Champions League and winning Madrid its tenth title".

Materazzi, like everyone else, has his favourites for the Ballon d'Or: "I'd give the player's award to Messi. I'd give the award for best manager to my friend José of course".

During his time at Inter, Mourinho had a very cordial relationship with Materazzi, which became and remains a close friendship despite the thousands of kilometres which separate them.

After winning the Champions League against Bayern Munich at the Bernabéu, the then Inter coach stopped his car outside the stadium after the celebrations. Mourinho sought out the Italian centre-back, gave him a hug and they both started crying, because the Portuguese had already committed his future to Real Madrid.
