Liverpool linked with ambitious move to resign Xabi Alonso

December 06, 2012

XABI ALONSO has cast doubt over his future at Real Madrid, prompting suggestions he could leave the club in January.

The Spain international has not negotiated a new contract at the Bernebeu, which could spell the end for him in Spain.

Liverpool are believed to be keen on re-signing him and Alonso is understood to favour a move back to the Reds.

He established himself as a fans’ favourite during his five seasons at Anfield, making 121 appearances for the club.

Liverpool fans would welcome the chance to see him reunite with Steven Gerrard in the middle of the park.

More importantly, he was at the centre of some of Liverpool’s greatest triumphs, including their epic Champions League Final win against AC Milan in Istanbul in 2005.

With the unrest enveloping at Real Madrid what with the futures of Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo still unresolved, a move back to Liverpool might not be beyond the realms of possibility for Alonso.
