La Liga is not boring, says Aragones

December 19, 2012

Former Spain coach Luis Aragones has refuted Diego Simeone's claims that La Liga is boring due to Barcelona's dominance at the top of the table.

After seeing his Atletico Madrid side lose 4-1 at Camp Nou on Sunday, the Argentine said the battle for the title had turned into a one-horse race.

But Euro 2008-winning boss, Aragones, does not believe Tito Vilanova's team are assured of the title, while he also claimed there were other stories developing further down the standings.

"I would not say that it is boring because there are still two teams playing for the championship," he told AS.

"And then there are three of four teams who are fighting out for the remaining Champions League places.

"It is not boring, but perhaps it gets a bit heavy [with Barcelona's dominance]."

The 74-year-old also praised the job that former Argentina international Simeone is doing in the Spanish capital and believes they can still push for their first domestic title since 1996.

"Real Madrid will always fight until the end and Atletico also have a chance because they are doing well," he added.

"El Cholo is doing an outstanding job at Atletico and his team are responding to what the fans and the coach require."
