If Arsenal transfer target Klaas-Jan Huntelaar gets his way he'll rip open Arsene Wenger's reluctant wallet and become the highest paid Gunner in January, according to a report.
The Dutch goal-hound is no spring chicken at 29, but his scoring record for Schalke and Holland is strong enough for him to command a reported £6million price tag, even with his current deal nearing an end.
He's been knocking in goals at club and international level very consistently for the best part of a decade - and bagged a couple for Schalke against Arsenal in the Champions League group stage this season.
The Times reports that Arsenal have opened formal talks with the Bundelsiga club with a view to a January transfer for the Dutch ace, who is entering the last six months of his current contract, and could leave on a free in the summer.
That explains the relatively cut-price £6million fee - but the player's personal demands are reportedly far less modest.
The Times reports that Huntelaar wants £100,000/week as a basic salary and a three-year deal - pushing the overall potential cost of his signature above the £20million mark.
It would make him the highest paid Arsenal player - and serves up an interesting alternative to the situation regarding Theo Walcott.
The Gunners contract rebel famously fancies himself as a centre forward - though that's clearly an issue of potential rather than evidence so far. Walcott is also reportedly looking for money around the ton/week mark.
Arsene Wenger is seemingly now looking to compare and contrast...
