The Portuguese journalist Manuel Pereira, of the sports paper 'A Bola', claims that Florentino Pérez has backed José Mourinho, telling him that "Mou will be my coach until at least 2016". The Real Madrid president seems to be set on the 'Special One' staying in the 'Los Blancos' hotseat, or at least that's what Pereira told MARCA TV's 'Futboleros' show.
Florentino will reportedly make public this private vote of confidence over the next few days, when he tells the media that he is sticking with his man. Everything points towards this happening during the club's traditional Christmas lunch date with the journalists who cover Real Madrid every day, although the president speaking on Real Madrid TV next week cannot be ruled out either.
In other words, Florentino is willing to go out on a limb for Mourinho, whom he believes still has plenty to achieve at Madrid.
Real Madrid has maintained a stony silence in the wake of MARCA's reports last week suggesting that the Portuguese tactician will be departing the club on 30th June next year, regardless of whether he wins the Champions League. Mourinho, meanwhile, has made a series of ambiguous noises, while telling the assembled press he had nothing to say on the subject. "Ask your colleague, the one who wrote it in MARCA" were his exact words.
Notwithstanding the above, there is a groundswell of opinion that Mourinho would himself seek out pastures new were he to secure the Champions League trophy, only choosing to stay if he fails to capture this, his number one target.
