Fifa secretary Jerome Valcke: Goal-line technology is a revolution

December 06, 2012

Fifa secretary Jerome Valcke has labelled the impending use of goal-line technology as a football "revolution".

The Club World Cup in Japan will trial two brand new systems for the very first time - Hawk-Eye and GoalRef - and which ever proves to be the most efficient will be used at the 2013 Confederations Cup.

"This is a kind of revolution. It is the first time that this kind of technology is coming into football. The tests are done; and the installation tests were successful," he told Fifa.com.

"The referees had a full training session with the system yesterday. We will make sure that they know how to use the technology.

"Ninety minutes before each game, the referee will test the system. Based on his test, he will decide whether or not it will be used. This is the way it will be forever."

Thursday's clash between Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Auckland City will be the first ever match to use the technology.
