FC Twente are expected to cut short their loan deal for defender Dedryck Boyata and send him back to parent club Manchester City after failing to make an impact for the Dutch outfit.
With fierce competition for places at the Etihad Stadium, Boyata found himself some way down the defensive pecking order and opted for a move to Holland in the summer.
However, the 22-year-old Belgian is now expected to return to the Premier League champions after Twente boss Steve McClaren decided against extending the player's loan deal for a further six months.
The centre-half has only made five appearances for the Eredivisie side, mainly as a substitute, and was sent off during the Dutch Cup tie against Den Bosch.
Former England manager McClaren is also expected to offload defenders Nicky Kuiper and Tim Cornelisse as well as striker Denny Landzaat and former skipper Peter Wisgerhof in the January transfer window.
With Twente currently sitting in third spot in the standings and just two points off leaders PSV Eindhoven, McClaren is expected to do quite a bit of business next month.
However, he is not expected to recall striker Joshua John, who is currently on loan at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland.
