Celtic vs Arbroath Scotish FA Cup Match Report

December 02, 2012

SPL giants Celtic were left stunned by a late goal from Arbroath striker Steven Doris that earned the Second Division side a replay in the Scottish Cup after a 1-1 draw at Celtic Park.

The hosts took the lead thanks to an own goal from Alex Keddie in the first half after a clearance rebounded off the player and into the net, but Doris grabbed the equaliser with a deflected effort in the 87th minute.

Neil Lennon made nine changes to his starting line-up with an all-important Champions League encounter against Spartak Moscow next week, but could not get his team firing against their less illustrious opponents.

The hosts were dominant throughout, with Arbroath having to face 19 shots in all, though only seven on target, while the visitors scored with only their second attempt in the game.

Miku headed wastefully headed over in the opening minutes, while shots from Tony Watt, Victor Wanyama and Scott Brown also failed to open the scoring.

However, an attempted clearance by Arbroath defender Stuart Malcolm struck the back of Keddie and rebounded into the net for the first goal of the game.

After the break, Miku hit the woodwork for the hosts and Beram Kayal and Wanyama went close, but they were forced to pay for their sloppiness in front of goal when the visitors levelled with less than five minutes to go.

Doris hit an effort from distance that deflected past keeper Lukasz Zaluska and in to earn the visitors a replay at Gayfield on December 12.
