Casillas hints at international retirement after 2014 World Cup

December 06, 2012

In an appearance in the town of Boadilla del Monte for a clinic, Iker Casillas spoke about the Spain team and suggested that after the World Cup in Brazil a number of players could leave the team to make way for a younger generation. He included himself in that group.

"After the World Cup there will be many who decide to stop playing for Spain. That way younger people can come in. For that reason winning the World Cup would be a great climax. After that, it may be that nothing is the same", said Spain's most-capped player.

For Iker, Spain "will be favourites at the Brazil World Cup, and although we have a great team, it won't be easy to win two World Cups back-to-back like we did at the European Championship."
