Arena refuses to discuss Kaka deal

December 06, 2012

LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena has refused to be drawn on the possibility Kaka could join the club from Real Madrid.

Brazil international Kaka, 30, has been unable to establish himself in Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans and this week said he is “open” to talks about a transfer.

Los Angeles has been touted as a potential destination, with the Galaxy currently seeking to replace David Beckham, who played his final game for the club in Saturday's MLS Cup final win over Houston, but Arena said it would be disrespectful to speak about a potential deal.

“We can afford whatever (AEG president) Tim Leiweke and (AEG owner) Phil Anschutz say we can afford,” he told the club’s official website. “Those kinds of decisions really go up the ladder and each situation as it comes our way is evaluated.

“We have had literally, over the four years I've been here, discussions over a couple of dozen players and the financial impact that it has on our business. In the case of any player we do that.

“We don't discuss acquisitions or transfers or anything of players with other teams. That's ethically wrong. At this point in time I'm not going to have a public opinion of one player over the other unless those players are free agents.”
