The Brazil legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento, aka Pelé, now 72, has been admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.
A spokesperson from the hospital confirmed that Pelé was being treated at the centre, but refused to go into further detail out of respect for the privacy of the former Brazil star's family.
Local newspaper 'Folha de Sao Paulo', quoting an anonymous source close to Pelé, claims that the player has undergone an operation on his hip to treat an issue with his femur.
