Gerard Deulofeu added yet another chapter to his short but successful career on Tuesday night, making his competitive debut for Tito Vilanova. He replaced Pedro with five minutes to go in Moscow, enough time for people to take a look at him and confirm his promising future.
Guardiola played him twice last season. The first was on 29th October 2011 in the league against Mallorca (5-0). He was 17 years old. The second was in the Champions League not long after on 6th December against BATE Borisov (5-0) with Barça already qualified for the knock out stages.
However, Guardiola and Tito weren't the first people to spot Deulofeu's talent. It was the scouts at Nike, who signed him at just 12 years old when they saw the star in the making. At 14 years old they offered him a contract worth €150,000 a year.
This is the first year that he has had a salary with the B Team, although he was already playing regularly in Barça's second team last season and was its top goalscorer. His salary is about €60,000 this season. He had a youth contract until he was 17 years old.
Deulofeu has been one of Nike's biggest gambles, having previously taken a risk on Leo Messi. He's considered to be the jewel in Barça's youth academy.
