Mourinho to offer Benzema in a swap deal for Javier Hernandez

November 15, 2012

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is said to be setting his sights on Man United striker Javier Hernandez and is ready to offer long term Old Trafford target Karim Benzema in a swap deal that could just tempt Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Scot is known to be an admirer of the French international and the 24 year old Real Madrid striker has stated publicly that Ferguson has made attempts to sign him in the last few transfer windows, this may be the opportunity he needs to finally land the former Lyon man.

Benzema has spoken out in recent weeks about his frustration at being left out of Mourinho’s starting eleven and this could lead to the powerful forward considering a move to Man United. Thus far this term he has started just seven of the club’s 17 games across all competitions.

This is perhaps surprising given that Benzema scored 32 goals last term, helping Real Madrid to a La Liga title and finishing second only to Cristiano Ronaldo in the Madrista top scorers charts.

Javier Hernandez could perhaps have similar complaints about his lack of first team starts though the Mexican has clearly seen his chances limited by the arrival of Robin Van Persie from Arsenal over the summer.

There is a feeling that Chicharito can not ably play alongside the Dutch forward whereas Ferguson may feel that Benzema possesses the qualities that may perhaps better suit a strike-pair role with Van Persie. There is perhaps space for such a tactical plan now that Wayne Rooney has found himself increasingly used in a more withdrawn position in a floating role between midfield and attack.

24 year old Mexican international Hernandez suffered something of a difficult second season at Man United last term but has returned to goal-scoring ways during the current campaign, netting eight goals despite making just six starts all season.
