German source 4-4-2.com believe Arsenal will battle Schalke in the race to sign Japanese international Keisuke Honda who is edging towards an exit from current club CSKA Moscow.
The 26 year old former VVV Venlo man has consistently been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past and after an effective spell in the Russian Premier League perhaps Honda is not open to making the switch to the English top tier.
The set piece specialist has scored 20 goals in 88 appearances for CSKA Moscow and has been particularly effective this term, with his form keeping the Luzhniki Stadium side within touching distance of top of the table Anzhi.
One could wonder why Arsene Wenger would target another creative midfielder but given the injury concerns the Gunners boss will have over the likes of Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby, Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky, all of whom have spent significant periods of time out on the sidelines, a move for reinforcements may be a wise one to make.
