Joan Laporta eyes Barcelona return
September 11, 2012
Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has claimed he would return to the club, but only if they became part of an independent Catalonia.
The 50-year-old was at the helm of the Blaugrana between 2003 and 2010, and presided over one the most successful periods in the club's history, winning four La Liga titles, two Champions League trophies and a Copa Del Rey.
He was succeeded by Sandro Rosell two years ago, but has claimed he would return to Camp Nou, but only once the club has become part of an independent Catalonia.
"I would like to preside Barcelona in an independent Catalonia," he told Nacio Digital. "I have already expressed this to the fans, and they have understood.
"When I was in charge we won Champions Leagues, World Club Championships, Super Cups and La Liga titles.
"Barca fans will understand as long as the ideology of the current president stays the same."
Laporta was speaking on the same day that over a million people marched through Barcelona, calling for Catalan independence in Spain's north-east region.
