The two have been competing for the individual awards in recent years with Messi taking the accolade home last 3 consecutive times but Papin believes Ronaldo would stop the Argentine's record-breaking run to the Ballon d'Or this year: "Cristiano Ronaldo has been more successful over the past season [than Lionel Messi], so I think he will win the Ballon d'Or," Papin told BeIN Sport".
Papin, who scored 30 goals in 54 international caps for France, won the 1991 European Footballer of the Year award in 1991 in Marseille jersey.
