Wenger: Premier League is not a two-horse race

January 04, 2013

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes a team outside of Manchester could still win the Premier League title this season.

Manchester United currently lead the title race with Sir Alex Ferguson’s men seven points clear of neighbours Manchester City in second, while the chasing pack, consisting of Tottenham, Chelsea, Everton and Arsenal, are all likely to participate in a battle for a top-four place.

However Wenger is adamant that one of those clubs could break free and mount a challenge for the title.

"I don't know [how many teams are in the title race] - more than two certainly," Wenger told reporters.

"[Chelsea's defeat to QPR] just confirms that it’s difficult for everybody to win the game, that there is no difference between the teams now.”

Wenger refused to suggest his side were going to press on with a title challenge but he maintained that any team can lose to anyone which will provide opportunities.

"The teams are well organised, they are physically very strong and if you’re not at your best, you don’t win the game. It’s the same for everybody," he added.

"Manchester [United are] top of the league, but they’ve already lost three games so I believe that the Premier League is very competitive."
