Gulf Cup 2012: Kuwait see off Yemen

January 07, 2013

Defending Gulf Cup champions Kuwait stamped their authority in the competition as two second half goals sealed a comfortable 2-0 victory over Yemen in Kuwait’s opening Group B match of the Gulf Cup 2013.

Al Qadsia striker Bader Al Motawaa (pic) missed a penalty in the 11th minute but he compensated the early mistake by scoring Kuwait’s second in the 82nd minute after Yousef Naser Al Salman put them 1-0 up in the 63rd minute at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium.

Kuwait are in Group B of the AFC Asian Cup 2015 qualifiers where they meet favourites Iran, Thailand and Lebanon while Yemen face Gulf neighbours Qatar and Bahrain alongside with Malaysia in Group D.

Kuwait, who failed to win a single match in AFC Asian Cup 2011 in Qatar, will make a long trip to Thailand on 6 February 2013 while Yemen face fellow West Asian side Bahrain in the AFC Asian Cup 2015 qualifiers.
