David Moyes has revealed that Everton’s financial plight means he can hope for nothing more than a ‘couple of loan deals’ in this month’s transfer window.
The Scot needs to patch up his injury-hit squad.
There are doubts over Steven Pienaar and Leighton Baines, and Phil Neville, Kevin Mirallas, Darron Gibson and Tony Hibbert will miss the game at Newcastle tonight.
Moyes admitted: ‘The chief executive has said there is a very small amount available. Maybe a couple of loans, if we could come up with them.’
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew, boosted by the return of Yohan Cabaye and Steven Taylor to training this week, will welcome £5.5million signing Mathieu Debuchy to St James’ Park today.
Pardew said: ‘Everton could be a platform for us — a difficult one but no more difficult than Manchester United last year (when Newcastle won 3-0).
'I feel that we can beat them. If you take November and December out, it was a great year. Unfortunately you can’t, so next year we have to put 12 good months together.’
