Berlusconi pessimistic about chance of landing Guardiola

January 08, 2013

AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi says he remains interested in bringing Pep Guardiola to the San Siro, but admits the chances of the club securing the former Barcelona manager's services are "very low".

Guardiola left Barcelona in the summer after winning two Champions Leagues and three Primera Division titles in a four year spell in charge at the Camp Nou. The 41-year-old has been on a year-long sabbatical, but announced on Monday night that he is willing to make a return to coaching.

Speculation over Guardiola's future has since risen, and Berlusconi revealed he would be interested in approaching the Spaniard to take over from Massimiliano Allegri.

"(You ask) if Allegri will stay at Milan next season? I have to say the truth? Please, ask me another question," said Berlusconi.

"I always tried to bring (Guardiola) to Milan, because over the last (few) years Barcelona played the best football. We contacted him, but he said he wanted to stay in a sabbatical.

"He said that at Milan he'd have fun and felt admiration towards me, and appreciation for the Lake Como, where I could offer a beautiful villa. At this moment, I have to say the percentage for him to come to Milan is very low."
