Valencia captain David Albelda sends warnings to want-away teammates

December 04, 2012

Valencia team captain, David Albelda, had his say on the situation at the squad following Mauricio Pellegrino's dismissal, something he does not see as a solution to the team's problems and advised any teammate "who doesn't want to be here" that he has "a good opportunity" to leave the team.

"It's a cliché but the most relevant one in football: it's easier and cheaper to get rid of one than twenty five. I've never believed that things aren't working in a team because of the job a coach is doing, I don't think it can make such a big difference. I don't know what is needed, even if you change coach you have to change a lot of other things as well. We have to be self-critical as players and change our behaviour because it's not been at all good up to now", Albeda pointed out.

Amidst his criticisms of the squad, in contrast to the "fantastic and brilliant job" Pellegrino did, fired after the 2-5 loss against Real Sociedad, the captain directed those players not committed to the team towards the exit door.

"I don't know what all my teammates are thinking but it's November and it's a good opportunity for those who don't want to be here to leave in December. They all know where they have to go to say that they don't want to be here and, if I was the club, I would make those exits happen, regardless of who it is or their CV", he warned.
