Sunderland's McClean: We can all learn from Rooney and RVP movement

December 17, 2012

JAMES McCLEAN says Sunderland can learn from Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie as they try to pull out of danger.

The Black Cats left Old Trafford empty-handed after being out-played for an hour — but spurned chances to get back into the game.

And McClean insists there is no reason to feel down ahead of the crunch trip to Southampton next weekend.

He said: “The movement of Rooney and van Persie is frightening. We can all learn from that.

“They are world-class strikers and they haven’t scored the most goals in the league for nothing.

“They’re a world-class side. It took us time to settle but then we gave a good account and in the second half we made plenty of chances. On another day we might have got something.

“We can be encouraged by what we did and now we have a massive game coming up against Southampton.

“We played well against Reading and we took that confidence in to this game.

“Now we have to make sure that continues at Southampton.”
