Ships and planes gain Premier League rights

December 04, 2012

The Premier League has struck a deal with IMG Worldwide to broadcast live matches across selected aeroplanes and cruise ships.

Improved technology will allow the Sport 24 channel on some Lufthansa and Gulf Air planes to show a highlights package as well as live games.

Norwegian Cruise Liners have also been handed Premier League rights in an unprecedented move that is likely to expand across other transport companies in the future.

The three-year deal will generate £5.5 billion of revenue and Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore believes it is an opportunity to further promote English football.

"We know IMG well and are extremely pleased that they have chosen to invest in the Premier League's exclusive aeroplanes and ships broadcasting rights," Scudamore said. "We look forward to working with them as they distribute the Premier League in a way that allows our fans to enjoy the competition while travelling overseas."
