Shane Long ignores speculations over January move

December 11, 2012

West Brom striker Shane Long is paying little attention to reports of a January move as he is fully focused on continuing his fine early season form.

Long has already netted eight goals this season and his impressive displays have led to speculation that he could be targeted by rival Premier League clubs, with Liverpool in particular being linked with the Irishman.

But head coach Steve Clarke insists the 25-year-old will not head away from the Hawthorns and Long is adamant he is enjoying life with West Brom.

"I'm just concentrating on my football, I'm enjoying playing up front, I love my job," he said.

"It's very enjoyable at the moment and I'll let the rumours take care of themselves."

The Baggies have slipped from third to sixth in the Premier League after successive defeats to Swansea, Stoke and Arsenal, but Long is confident the team will get back on track.

He said: "I think the only bad performance we have put in was during the first half against Swansea.

"Last week against Stoke it was just a horrible game and against Arsenal two penalties cost us.

"We've still got that confidence in us. We're still fairly close in the league and want to look at the teams above us and try and hang on to them rather than looking down."We've still got that confidence in us. We're still fairly close in the league and want to look at the teams above us and try and hang on to them rather than looking down.

"We'll forget about the last three results. We're playing well, we're confident on the ball. Once we get that rub of the green, results will start going our way."
